Did Israel Really Become a Nation in 1948

Tonight, I am going to be discussing a hot and rather controversial subject - and that is the question of whether or not biblical Israel actually is the same as the political Israel state we now have in the Middle East. Did Israel really become a nation in 1948? Or is this part of the Great Deception? I don't have the answers, but I'm on a quest to find them.
