First Rule~

When a teacher has to deal with brand new material for a class of students the first rule of which he/she must convince the class is that they don't know what they don't know. This can be very difficult in some cases because students often feel that their own understanding of the  knowledge of a particular subkect is ubiquitous, i.e., universally known, and they don't actually need to learn what you are teaching them. One common phrase given in response to a teacher introducing new material is, "I already know that!" This is particuarly true in higher grades.

Admitting that you don't know what you don't know frees you to bring an inquisitive mind to the subject, uninhibited by preconceived notions of what 'should be', and allows you to establish the mind set of simply 'What IS'. Without this, there is NO learning, and the thought processes that are required for establishing the logic stream that leads to understanding can never happen.

This is particularly true in "subjective" subjects such as the study of prophecy and the order of End Time Events. If you are inculcated into a well established 'religion' that has it's own unique prophetic understanding, then it is virtually impossible to go backward to the point of saying "I don't know what I don't know", and start over from the beginning of the learning curve, and you will never be able to see the logical process that will eventually allow you to see and understand Truth.

Why is this important? Because without doing this you can't humble yourself, and admit that you might just be wrong in how you view the prophecies of the End. So rather than gaining a sense of peace, you are constantly worrying about where you are in time, and won't know what you need to know to be an effective servant of the God you claim to love.
