Judy is a retired science teacher living in Harlan County KY. She is a newspaper columnist and writes about Appalachia culture and people.
She is a published author having written several books about Mountain Culture, Wildlife, coal mining and history as well as books that reflect her strong faith.
Judy is known throughout the state and really the entire nation for her efforts to promote Appalachian Culture and its people and to protect its environment
She recived national attention in the late 1990s when she led efforts to protect Black Mountain ,,,,,,,Kentuckys highest peak.....from being stripped mine by a coal company.....which would have had devastating environmental impacts.
Currently.....Judy is focusing alot of her work on elusive animals in the Appalachian Mountains
She is working on a book called Panther Tales where she is sharing people's stories about panther and bobcat sightings.
