I have long been interested in the degree of hatred directed at Barack Obama and now Hillary Clinton. It is not argued that fault cannot be found with their characters, (as with any of us as human beings) or that their political principals and goals cannot arouse passionate disagreement.  But the criticisms of both, especially of Hillary Clinton, is expressed with such hatred and loathing that it seems to me that it warrants some psychological exploration. I will focus my story not on the political operatives and well paid haters on the media whose motives are easier to understand but on ordinairy people who react to Obama and Clinton as if they had just kidnapped and murdered their children. I will first discuss the psychoanalytic concept of defense and transference and then provide some evidnece to justicy my story.
