As we anticipate the outcome of our upcoming General Election... our focus must move away from who will win to what course of action as ADOS should we adopt, whoever is elected as President, Vice President and members of the United States Congress (both in the Senate and House of Representatives).
Our program this evening will attempt to point us in a direction of awareness, purpose and self-determination.
What are we going to expect and demand from those who will be responsible to governing our nation at this pivotal time in our nation's history? And, what will be our strategy in getting those in power to not merely hear our concerns but to make them priority, over the next four years?
One thing we know and that is, we will not allow anyone, outside of those of us who are American Descendants of Slaves (ADOS) to dictate what our demands should be, nor what strategy to implement to get those demands met.
Another thing, we will no longer be drawn into having our interests blended into the interests of other groups demanding equal justice. Another words, we will longer accept being labeled, "people of color" or even minority, if that term is used as a collective one... We are ADOS.
To identify as ADOS takes us away from viewing ourselves simply in racial terms (because of slavery, and the rape and destruction of families that occurred... most of us are mixed race) and puts the focus on our shared legacy.... ie., we are descendants of slaves and recognize ourselves as such.
