Join our hosts Aqeela Sherrills & David Guizar discussing; CSA & Colonization. On this episode we will explore how childhood sexual abuse has been used as a tool of colonization. Indigenous peoples all around the world from the Maori to Turtle Island Natives to captive African peoples have a shared history of sexualized victimization through colonial rule. A Maori lawyer, Moana Jackson, links historical forms of sexualized colonizing tactics to today's policies that continue this troubling legacy. Jackson discusses in his article "Colonisation and the Suffering of Children" how New Zealand, under the Crown, continues to systematically remove indigenous children from their families only to experience CSA under "state care". The state declines to take responsibility for the suffering that's inflicted, because as Moana suggest, the state is reluctant to relinquish resources to compensate the victims. In Moana's words-- "it does nothing to address or even acknowledge the systemic issues that have impoverished and damaged so many". This truth is mirrored in the institutional policies and practices aimed at silencing colonized communities around the world. Tune In- Call-in!
