In what was an exciting fight in front of a sold-out crowd at the Barlow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, Wilder retained his WBC heavyweight title with a ninth-round knockout of a brave, resilient Eric Molina on Saturday evening.
It was Erislandy Lara’s audition on “PBC” on Spike as he took on Delvin Rodriguez in a 12 round bout at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. The fact that Miguel Cotto stopped Rodriguez, and only needed three rounds to do it, put a little pressure on Lara to impress.
Artur Beterbiev was set for action last week on the Guerrero-Martinez undercard at the StubHub Center before his opponent pulled out due to injury. That is why Beterbiev was the televised opener for tonight’s “PBC” on Spike as he faced off against late replacement Alexander Johnson.
Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed, the 22yr old junior welterweight from Maryland, took on Luis Joel Gonzalez on the undercard of tonight’s HBO “Boxing After Dark” that features Nicholas Walters and Felix Verdejo fighting in separate bouts.
Reed started off very slow in the fight and was much more aware of what he was throwing. He was taking inventory of his power punches, which might’ve given his opponent a false sense of awareness.
Jose Pedraza and Andrey Klimov fought for a vacant IBF junior lightweight title in the televised opener for ShowTime’s telecast featuring Wilder-Molina at the Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.
Pedraza started off well and utilized both his left hook and right hand. It was Pedraza’s hand speed and combinations that separated himself from his opponent in the first round.
