The WBO seems to be pushing for a showdown between two of their belt holders; 154 lb titlist Canelo Alvarez and 160 lb titlist Billy Joe Saunders. Earlier this week, Saunders was mandated by the World Boxing Organization to fulfill two mandatory defenses although allowing a match-up between two champions to take place in lieu of the mandatories, supported by President Francisco 'Paco' Valcarcel.
Valcarcel has also made headlines by calling out what he believes is hypocrisy in the recent criticism of his super welterweight champion, Alvarez. "People place too much blame on Canelo when it comes to the fight against Golovkin. People are always asking Canelo about that fight, questions on social networks, but nobody approaches Golovkin and questions him on why would not fight Andre Ward at 168 pounds. Why not blame Golovkin for not wanting to go to war with Ward like they always do with Canelo?," Valcarcel said to BoxingScene.com/Notifight.com.
In other news the WBA has granted a 15-day extension to the Golovkin Jacobs negotiations to prevent a purse bid, leaving to a headlining opportunity for Terence Crawford on December 10th with Felix Diaz being the rumored opponent.
