The importance of women leaders in the Bible is an essential aspect of Christendom. Women as well as men influenced some of the greatest events in Biblical times.
Yet, the Biblical account of Noah's wife only gives us a nameless woman who bears Noah's children and is with him in the ark.
T.K. Thorne, who is my guest for this episode, is an award winning author, who has filled in the story with her imagination based on evidence of a great flood in the Black Sea region almost 7,000 years ago.
Author T.K. Thorne, who has traveled in Turkey and Israel researching her books, speaks about how she tackled a historical fiction novel about an unknown woman in one of the oldest and most famous stories on earth.
Her debut prize-winning novel, Noah's Wife, gives the Biblical story of Noah-and-the-ark a unique twist, telling the tale from the perspective of a brilliant young girl with a form of autism (now) known as Asperger's Syndrome.
One in every 91 persons has a form of autism. The choice to make Noah’s wife an Asperger savant stemmed from personal experience in the author’s life and gives the story a unique perspective.
Noah’s Wife has also won ForeWord Review’s Book of the Year for Historical Fiction (2009).
