In 2006, Quince Lanford lost his sight after suffering a stroke of the optic nerve just as he was about to begin dialysis for a kidney condition.
For the former member of the 82nd Airborne Division, the adjustment to becoming suddenly blind was devastating.

On Saturday, Lanford will repay a little of the debt he owes the center when he serves as a DJ at the center’s third annual “Out of Sight Wing Fling” in Festival Park.
Guests at the event will get to sample chicken wings cooked by a dozen competing teams, visit an “Eye Q Zone” where they can get a sense of what it’s like to be blind — and hear Lanford spin some old school R&B and rock.
“It’s like partying with a partying with a purpose!
