Psalm 87 speaks of the glories of the Church. It mentions the glories of the churchs foundation, the churchs favors, the churchs fame, the churchs fraternity, the churchs future, and the churchs fountains. Dear friends, putting it altogether, do you see it with me, the glorious things spoken of the Church, the city of God?
In conclusion I would ask yet, what should be the effect and impact on us of these glorious testimonies about the Church? Shouldnt it be like that of the believing psalmist in Psalm 84 where he writes, A day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. Is this, by the grace of God, your testimony as well and is that evident also in all your church life?
Are you a living member of Christ, one true flock across the world, and do you too desire to advance the cause of Zion as God enables you and leads you and gives you opportunity? In that regard too, what kind of a church member are you? And do you desire to be, by Gods grace, a faithful active member, a supporting member? Do you say with the psalmist of Psalm 122, as expressed in song:
For sake of friends and kindred dear,
My hearts desire is Zions peace,
And for the house of God, the Lord,
my loving care shall never cease?
Shouldnt that be our testimony when it is well with our soul? Oh, that we all might hold to the Biblical view of the Christian Church as described in Psalm 87 and promote the same in sincerity and in truth, in word and deed, in our day and before the up and coming generations. As Paul says in Ephesians 3:21, Unto him [God] be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Psalm 87 is the Church Psalm. Will you always remember and promote Psalm 87 as the Church psalm, from now on? Amen.
