This week, Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from a surprising and interesting location: French Lick, Indiana. Never heard of it? Well, if you're an NBA fan, it might be on your radar as the home town of Larry Bird. For those of you who haven't heard of it, one reason to go is the legendary 161 year-old French Lick Resort and the West Baden Springs Hotel, which is where the Radio Show is broadcasting from.
Joining Peter Greenberg from this truly historic hotel will be Scott McCartney from The Wall Street Journal with an update on plans to finally redo LaGuardia Airport. Mike Rae, CEO of Tourism Cares, talks about his non profit group and the opportunities to travel to destinations that need help, encouraging us to go there and giving us hands-on opportunities to give back. In particular, the Nepal Cares program—one year after the earthquake there, so much work still needs to be done, and the time to go and help is now. Then we'll talk about the long history of golf at French Lick dating back to 1907. Is the hotel haunted? Sandi Woodward from Indiana Landmarks has a theory or two; so does Lin Wagner of the West Baden Museum, with stories of all the celebrities in the 1930s and 1940s who came to French Lick and may still be walking the halls. And then there's the story of the restoration of the hotel—a truly remarkable project. There's all that and more when the Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from the French Lick Resort in French Lick, Indiana.
