Verna Thomas-Melton, founder and director of Verna’s H.E.L.P. Foundation and a Fort Worth native, writes her first book to tell her story, "My Power in Three." An Authentic Spiritual Autobiography, which tells the story of a black woman who assisted with Dallas' 1st Homeless Shelter, which is today the Austin Street Shelter; changed the entire DISD-Special Education program throughout the State of Texas; and assisted with the documentation and implementation of the First Food Bank for North Texas, appointed by two Presidents of the United States.

Mentored by so many of Dallas' civic leaders and community giants. Revealing and describing how individual aspects of identity, such as race and class, don't receive wide recognition and how these aspects must be discussed when discussing how they are identified and treated by others.

The book Forward is written by Allen R. Sullivan, Ph.D., Emeritus, Assistant Superintendent, Office of Student Development and Advocacy Services, Dallas Independent School District, and

Marylyn R. Harris, RN, MSN, MBA, President, Harris Healthcare Consulting, LLC; Founder and Executive Director, Women Veterans Business Center • 2013 Houston and US SBA "Veteran Business Champion of the Year" • 2013 President Obama's White House "Champion of Change.
