The tale of the ancient Sumerian Goddess Inanna and her Underworld sister Ereshkigal is one of depth and power. Inanna embodies the beauty and majesty of sensuality in the upper world of light, while Ereshkigal embodies the harsh and unrelenting ways of death in the world of shadow. When Inanna chooses to visit her dark sister, Ereshkigal turns the eye of death upon her and has her hung on a hook in the underworld. Their struggle is a metaphor for both the relationships we have with other women, and between our own conscious and unconscious selves. Through storytelling and dialogue, we will explore the dynamics of betrayal and forgiveness, thereby discovering how to let ourselves off the hook that keeps us disempowered in a world that needs our compassionate leadership.
