The Slammy Awards was initially conceived to commemorate the release of The Wrestling Album - a sort of Grammy Award for the album released by the WWF. The award show than changed to give awards to wrestlers for wrestling-related achievements. The awards were a way to further storylines or push certain wrestlers.
