You don’t look “disabled”! Many have thought this statement and/or said it. This is a major reason why many people with a mental/learning or non-visible disability are hesitant to communicate their needs for accommodations at school or on the job? Unfortunately, many adults in the workplace today experienced negative stereotypes in early school years about people who learn differently than others and never learned how to communicate their needs to others. Special Guest Robert Hickem from Salt River Council joins to discuss the importance of communication between agencies and the persons with disabilities they serve. Today’s Veteran with a mental disability, along with many other non-military personnel, need to learn how to communicate their needs when dealing with challenges such as PTSD. Hear Chip Stoecker, Veteran, and Manager of the Ability Center in Phoenix share suggestions on ways to improve our communication skills. Veterans join our VET2VET™ segment for news updates and commentary at the end of the show.Would you please send your donation of at least $10 or more to continue our radio broadcasts, and help our students and Veterans with disabilities reach their education and workforce goals?
