FREDERICK AUGUSTUS DOUGLAS THE ORIGINAL CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER

There are twenty-seven amendments to the United States Constitution. The first ten focused on rights afforded to individual citizens, as expressed by the states. Specifically, the three related to the freedoms of African Americans are the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth amendments. All three of these came into existence due in part to the influence of Frederick Douglas. He was the first to fight for civil rights pre and post slavery.
