LaKeisha Smith is an activist for human rights and for breast cancer awareness. She is the proud parent of four children and a new grandbaby. Its being a mother that has forced LaKeisha to step forward on educating more vigorously on health and genetics such as the BRCA1 gene she carries. Her stock does not fall from a tree unripe as Keishas' mother Michelle Smith has been a leader in the community within the realm of gentle teaching with JARC Inc. for all of Lakeishas' life. LaKeisha wears many hats but takes none as seriously or works with as much passion as she does at being the BEST parent she can offer to her children. LaKeisha made a decision years ago to work at making her community and issues she stumbled over not as difficult for others. She has worked with teen pregnancy groups such as Lula Belle Stewart Services, and taught sexual responsibility at St. Johns Church on Oakland Ave in Detroit with Pastor Bertha Carter. LaKeisha also saw a need for individuals who re enter society from prison to have work so she aided in the discipline of employment with MPRI - Creating Safer Neighborhoods and Better Citizens via Insight Teleservices. "All these things are needed in rebuilding and healing the family structure within the community, but you must teach others how to heal themselves and how to build a positive self esteem first" says Keisha.
