A work of historical fiction, "The Indigo Scarf" follows the lives of two slaves in a quest for freedom and identity. PJ Piccirillo brings the 18th and 19th Centuries to life, and looks at the "peculiar institution" of slavery in an at times harsh, gritty and unforgiving tone. He chronicles the lives of these men, the women who followed them, and those who attempted to free slaves and give some sense of dignity in the pre-Civil War years.

An award-winning author, Piccirillo received his Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from St. Francis University, and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Maine. He hosts residencies for writers, and conducts programs for the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.
