Does your disability feel like nothing but a Power Struggle or an Emotional Roller Coaster? Well if it does, we have an inspiring guest speaker. Mrs. Cheryl Lyle. She is a long time Disability Rights Advocate, a wife and care giver of many as well as being a survivor of a disability firs but in Cheryl words she always puts the word disability last and who and who and what she has done 1st!!! All people with disabilities should address who and what they are using people first language and put the disability last. Here are a few examples.
Topics she will cover include,
People-first language
People-first language, also called person-first language, is a type of linguistic prescription which puts a person before a diagnosis, describing what a person "has" rather than asserting what a person "is". It is intended to avoid marginalization or dehumanization when discussing people with a chronic illness or disability. It can be seen as a type of disability etiquette but person-first language can also be more generally applied to any group that would otherwise be defined or mentally categorized by a condition or trait.
