Welcome to Episode 137 of Building My Legacy.

In this podcast we talk with mediator and executive coach Thilan Legierse about how her work as an attorney with the United Nations prepared her to help teams that are in conflict and to coach leaders to become more effective in the workplace. Thilan’s background is truly fascinating since it involves negotiating with world leaders in war zones and areas in which immense suffering resulted because the countries’ leaders violated their citizens’ human rights.

In our discussion, Thilan compares war zones with workplaces that dehumanize people because everyone isn’t treated equally. As a result, employees are afraid to speak up and become very resentful. Thilan explains how her practical process exposes the real pain points and helps turn around dysfunctional organizations while assisting leaders to become the good role models they were meant to be — a valuable message for leaders at all levels.

So if you want to know:

– How the most successful attorneys try to be collaborative rather than just fight battles
– What to do when employees take “work cover”
– Why that grudge you’re keeping is really holding you hostage
– How and why to get out of the victim mode
– The importance of finding out what’s underneath the conflict
