The vist of the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge to the commonwealth states over the past week has brought into sharper focus questions about the past and the future. The Royals visited with three countries, Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas. All three visits were met with cries of foul.The start of their tour was marred by protests in Belize by the locals. The couple landed in Jamaica on the second leg of their tour. and again they were greeted with protests. One day after their visit, it is reported that the Jamaican government began the process of transitioning the isalnd nation, the largest English speaking country into a republic.They were also met with protests in the Bahamas, where protesters demanded reparations,
The Caribbean has be embroiled in anger over the queeen's consistent reign as Head of state, even though these islands had gained their independence from England a long time ago. Barbados has recently removed the Queen as head of state to the island. It is said that the royal's visit to the commonwealth was a bid to dissuade other commonwealth from cutting ties with the Queen. The calls are now louder to cut formal ties with the Queen and campaign for slavery reparations.
