16-year-old Clifton Elliott Faces Capital Murder: Family Speaks Out

On April 12, 2010 the lives of three families were changed forever. Southwest High School student Eric Forrester was killed when he interrupted a burglary at his Fort Worth home. Police said Broderick Patterson and Clifton Elliott stole two laptop computers. Forrester was shot in the back of the head but was able to phone 911 from his cell phone, which he placed in his pocket moments before the fatal confrontation. The 911 call was captured on audio recording. Broderick Patterson and Clifton Elliott accuse each other of being the shooter, but prosecutors say the distinction may not matter; they both face capital murder charges for being part of the crime that led to the death of Eric Forrester. However, evidence has proven that there was only one shot fired. The accused teens cannot face the death penalty. If convicted, the maximum sentence would be life in prison with the possibility of parole after forty years. The family of Clifton Elliott spoke out, telling how they felt about their son facing capital murder charges and being tried as an adult in this crime.
