Divorce and the New Illinois Pet Law

When considering the option of divorce, it is common for couples to worry about the division of their estate, including (and often, most importantly) what would happen to their pet. With the change in Illinois law as of January 1, 2018, a Court can now take into consideration the best interest of an animal in a divorce proceeding and award ownership.
