Omaha, NE – With today’s technology, people can do remarkable things with signatures, but a seasoned forgery detection expert will never be fooled.
“Criminals think they are so smart; they think they can get away with it. And some people do get away with it, but not with me,” says Kessler.
Kessler has spent nearly 40 years studying the habitual patterns and characteristics of signatures. These habitual patterns and characteristics of our handwriting are unconscious.
“I’ll work with 30 or more signatures to identify the pattern of that signature over time,” says Kessler. “Once you see it, you can't unsee it.”
“I'm not particularly interested in the law; I'm interested in justice. There's a big difference. We don't always get justice in the court system,” says Kessler. “Most cases settle because it's obvious when I do my work and submit it to the attorney, it’s ready to take them all the way through trial. The opposing attorney sees what they're going to have to overcome, but they can't overcome it because you can't change what is habitually in a signature.”
Should a case go to trial, Kessler is also qualified as an expert witness.
“As an expert witness, you have to educate,” says Kessler. “In those cases, I am really careful about showing a jury the rationale for how I arrived at an opinion.”
