The purpose of the tabernacle, or tent, was summed up in Exodus 25:8. The tabernacle was God’s visual aid for instructing Israel. The tabernacle is a shadow, an outline of things to come. The purpose in building the Tabernacle is summed up in the key verses Exodus 25:8 and 29:46-47, “Let them make me a Sanctuary that I may dwell among them.” God desires to dwell in the midst of His redeemed people. He now dwells in the tabernacle or dwelling place of the Church. The bible shows us that, God has dwelt with men, among men, and now in men!

In the Old Testament, the Tabernacle of Moses was called: The Sanctuary (Exodus 25:8), Tent of Testimony or Witness (Numbers 9:15, 17:7, 18:2), House of God (Exodus 34:26), and Tent of the Congregation (Exodus 40:34-35).
