A type is some person, or event, or ceremony recorded (in the Old Testament) to foreshadow a future person, event, or ceremony.

Types of the Old Testament are pictures (snap shots) in which the doctrines of the New Testament are previewed.  The OT is a record of (the Children of) Israel from their time in bondage to the taking of the Promsed Land.  The events of their OT history typify the plan of salvation revealed in the New Testament (recorded for our instruction). - Larkin

Today's Focus: The Burnt Offering

1  Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”

2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

- Genesis 22:1,2
