Nina Bingham comes back to Charlotte View with a show that will make you ponder on the role societal stigma has on the mental health in the LGBT community. By sharing her own story of acceptance and transformation (enlightment) Nina hopes to bring awareness on the need of a competent mental health program and professionals who understand the intricancies that the LGBT community has.
Special Guest: Nami James Nesterowicz who will share his story as a transgender
Nina will share her professional and personal opinion on areas such as:
Sexual orientation vs. gender orientation Same-sex attraction. Can it be corrected or cured? How do you know you are Gay? Are you born or made? "Coming Out" the process, safety issues, best practice
Nami James will talk about areas such as: what it means to be transgender? Transexual? Cross-dresser? What is gender identity and gender expression? Is being transgender a mental disorder?
Experiences of violence and victimization are frequent for LGBT individuals, and have long-lasting effects on the individual and the community. Personal, family, and social acceptance of sexual orientation and gender identity affects the mental health and personal safety of LGBT individuals.
