John was more devout and courageous and stood by Jesus when it counted. He also wrote 5 books of the Bible including one of the Gospels. Surely, he was a better choice for Pope than Peter. How about Paul? He wrote at least 13 of the Biblical books and was the greatest theologian of the NT. Surely, if not John, it would have been Paul.
Both are salient arguments except for one thing.....
Jesus chose Peter.
Moses was too meek to oppose Pharoh...David was too small to oppose Goliath.... it's the same old story.
God chooses, not us. God guides the church, not us.
Modern conventions against Vatican II and the Pope are heretical and schizmatic. Vatican II was legit and John XXIII, Paul IV, John Paul I, John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis were all validly elected Popes. The Novus Ordo is a valid mass.
