Good morning and welcome to Get Healthy Now with Denise Thomson, Certified Health and Wellness Coach, Nurse, Fitness Trainer, Educator, Speaker and Best Selling Author.
What is your first thought when you hear the word SNOW?
Skiing, skateboarding, sledding, walking, making snow angels...
How do you prepare for a successful outing?
ALWAYS check the Road Conditions before starting up the mountain. Here in So Cal, we have different resources:
https://kbhr933.com/big-bear/roads/
Caltrans Road Conditions www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/mtnhwys.htm
www.bigbeargrizzly.net
There are three Routes to Big Bear, check all of them for your safety and to prevent unexpected long waits or turn arounds: 330, 38, 18 FOLLOW the instructions.
Are you experienced driving these mountain roads?
Do you know the rules that if there are 3 + vehicles behind you, you drive too slowly, go to the next TURN OUT and let the cars go before you go back onto the road.
Are you used to driving in snow and ice?
Do you need to put chains on your vehicle? Do it OFF STREET, in the TURN OUTS and DON'T block of the flow on the road. Last week there were 300 cars stuck on the 38 towards Big Bear because people are mindless when driving up a mountain.
Always be prepared with warm blankets, sleeping bags, food, water, CHAINS, etc.
By being prepared, following the rules on mountain driving, you are safer and you keep the other drivers safer by not aggrevating and irritating them with slow, unskilled driving.
Last Gaststation at the bottom is at Highland Ave, just before the hill starts.
Next Gasstation is at the beginning of Big Bear, about 30 miles up the windy road.
Choose, plan, prepare, dot the "i", then decide whether or not it's safe. Do not endanger anyone!
