Sundiata Acoli, 85, was recently released from prison after serving 49 years for the 1973 killing of a New Jersey troop in 1973. Sundiata had petitioned the pardon and parole board to grant him parole many times before but they'd always turned him down claiming that despite his being 85 years old he was likely to commit another crime if he were released. However, the New Jersey Superior Court overruled the board's decision not to grant Acoli parole stating that the board failed to show how he would be risk to the safety of others if released.
