Edwina Frances Martin, Esq., is a public interest lawyer focusing on Public Policy, Government Relations, Non-Profit Management, and Strategic Communications. Ms. Martin currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff for a New York City Council Member. Prior positions include Director of Government Relations, Communications and Pro Bono for Legal Services NYC and Litigation Associate with the law firms of Shearman & Sterling LLP and Van Lierop, Burns & Bassett LLP. She began her career serving as law clerk to the Hon. Lawrence W. Pierce, United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Ms. Martin is a recipient of several awards including the SI African-American Political Association 2005 Community Service Award; a 2008 Emerging Leader Award from the American Association of University Women-NYS; the 2010 Women’s History Month Woman of Distinction Award from NYS Senator Diane Savino and NYS Assembly Member Nicole Malliotakis; and a 2012 Ruby Award from Soroptimist Int’l/SI. Ms. Martin volunteers with several bar associations including the NYS Bar Association (Delegate, House of Delegates; Co-Chair, President’s Committee on Access to Justice); the Network of Bar Leaders (Recording Secretary); and the Staten Island Women’s Bar Association (Past President, Advisory Council). She is also a member of the NYC Bar, the Richmond County Bar, and the Staten Island Trial Lawyers Association. In addition to her bar work, Ms. Martin is active in several civic organizations including the Staten Island Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Past Social Action CoChair), the American Association of University Women-NYS (State Past President and Co-President, Rockland County), and the New York Bar Foundation (Board Member).
