CHARLES DOUGLASS 2020 BIOGRAPHY. Douglass is the Co – Founder and Artistic Director of, The Performing Arts For Life And Education Foundation, Inc. ( PALEF), a 30 year old nonprofit Arts and community activist, organization serving the underserved and disenfranchised youth, young adults and families of South Los Angeles and surrounding areas. PALEF’s 30th anniversary celebration will be October 1, 2023. Mr. Douglass is also the creator and writer of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gospel Songfest, just completing its twelfth year of existence. Mr. Douglass Has had an extremely active career, spanning over a fifty year period. Hailing from Philadelphia (the city of ‘Brotherly Love’), he was a community organizer under The Industrial Areas Foundation for over ten years and was a Supervisor with The La Bridges Program. Mr. Douglass spent well over five years with the “Hope in Youth” youth empowerment initiative in the mid-nineties. Mr. Douglass is a prolific community activist, a Producer, Director, and award winning writer. As a performing artist, Mr. Douglass has appeared in over eight Broadway shows including the title role in “The Wiz”, “Eubie”, and other credits too numerous to list here. Among them he lists: Co-starring in the London production of an award winning musical opposite the late, Ms. Lena Horne; the International tour of her one woman show, "Lena Horne...The Lady and Her Music".
