Whatever Christ suffered at Gethsemane, it was minimal compared to the crucifixion! Death can come in a thousand different and terrible ways, but nothing compares to the horrors that attend death by crucifixion!

Evil men and evil demons combined their powers to destroy Christ from the time of His birth. The devil worked through both government officials and religious leaders trying to kill Him after He was born. It was Lucifer’s principle objective from the time of the revolt in heaven.

The devil and Christ were opponents in a war of greater proportions than any other battle among men. The Savior had gone through His short life enduring “opposition in all things” from the hand of that wicked one. Now, at His death, the devil would use his trump card through the crucifixion. It was a torture so inhuman that it could break the will of any man. Only the devil and hell could cause such misery to come upon such innocence. The devil wanted to make Christ say or do something wrong, so it would give him victory over the Savior.
