To the Cross at Calvary part 2.
Here Brigham Young definitely identifies the time and place when Jesus experienced this sweating of blood. It was on the cross that the sins of mankind were heaped upon His soul. It was only upon His death that His blood would make an atonement. As the “Lamb slain from the foundations of the world”, it was on the cross—that became an immortal altar of sacrifice—that the sins of mankind were atoned for. The actual experiencing of pain of those sins was so intense that He sweat blood. John Taylor said:
When He found the accumulated weight of the sins of the world rolling upon His head, his feelings were so intense that He sweat great drops of blood. (JD 24:34)
