THE DAY OF PENTECOST
It was fifty days after the resurrection of Christ that Pentecost was celebrated as the ‘Harvest Feast.” It was a one-day celebration of the law which was given from Sinai on the 50th day of deliverance from Egyptian bondage. Many Jews had gathered to Jerusalem from Mesopotamia, Asia, Egypt, Libya, Rome, Arabia, and other nations. The Twelve Apostles stood before the people and spoke by the Gift of the Holy Ghost in the various [11] languages of the people. Thus came the Gift of the Holy Ghost in the speaking of tongues. The people who heard them experienced the power of the Holy Ghost—the convincing power of God to thetruth of the Gospel.
“The ultimate deisgn of tongues is to speak to foreigners.”
