Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord. look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. Look unto Abraham your father and unto Sarah that bare you…. (Isa. 51:2)

The first mention of Abraham’s wife, Sarah, states that “she had no child” (Gen. 11:30) which was considered a reproach upon a woman in those days. Not willing to allow her husband to fail in having a posterity, she was willing to relinquish their servant girl, Hagar, to become his wife and have the children. Sarah said she was barren because “the Lord has prevented me from bearing.”
