This week we will continue our discussion of Sharia law which is considered by religious Moslems to be Allah's sacred law and mandatory for all of humanity -- whether they like it or not. A few Moslem would-be reformers insist that Sharia law is man-made law and optional, but they are out of step with the Moslem world and in violation of the sacred doctrines of Islam.
This week we will deal with inheritance laws, marriage laws and conjugal laws, all of which put women at a severe disadvantage legally under Islamic law.
As in the previous two programs on Sharia law (listen to the archives for May 13 and April 29), we will rely on the Islamic sources, one of the most important of which is: "Reliance of the Traveller -- A Classic Manual of Islamic Sacred Law" which was approved by the highest Islamic religious authorities in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Egypt and America. Using the materials from this authoritative Islamic source, you will learn just how deeply into one's personal life Sharia law gets. You will see that Sharia law is both totalitarian and imperialist. You will learn how Sharia law violates American law in many ways and, therefore, Moslems are not free to practice it in full. However, because it is mandatory, Muslims do not have full freedom to practice their religion in America -- or almost any other country, for that matter.
