Islam in Focus--Pakistan's State of Jihad

Oxford University doctoral candidate Prateek Joshi, previously with India's Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, will join show host Andrew E. Harrod to examine the historic role jihadist groups have played in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.  Recently the Financial Affairs Task Force (FATF), a international organization that combats financial abuses like terrorism financing, has noted deficiencies in Pakistan's efforts to prohibit terrorism financing.  Yet since Pakistan's founding in 1947, Pakistan has relied upon jihadist proxies to advance its national security policy, particularly against Pakistan's larger rival, India, with which Pakistan has fought three wars.  Thus jihadist affiliates of groups like Jaish-e-Mohammad operate openly in Pakistan and, from there, on social media.  The 2011 killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden by American Special Forces in Abbottabad, Pakistan, only highlighted these dangers.  Joshi will provide expert insight into these problems and how to combat them.
