Did Ptolemy name Mecca - The Cross and the Crescent Discussion Group.
Mecca has zero evidence for its existence prior to 7th century. There is no archeological evidence for it. There is not pre-Islamic manuscript evidence for it. There is no cartographical evidence for it. There is nothing there. So, what do 1.6 billion followers of Muhammad come up with it? Ptolemy.
Ptolemy was a 1st century Greek historian who actually managed the great library in Alexandria Egypt. He is known for his great historical work “Biblioteca Historica”. In this work, while combing through the other ancient texts within the Alexandrian library he cites a “city”, in Arabia, that kinda sorta sounds like… well… it begins with an “M” as does Mecca so they must be the same, Macoraba. Is Macoraba as cited by Ptolemy Mecca?
No, Macoraba is not Mecca. Come to Sunday’s show where conclusive evidence and an abject refutation of this desperate claim will be provided!
