“A Blasphemer Stoned”
Leviticus 24:10-23
It should be common knowledge among God’s people that He requires us to be holy (see Romans 12:1) because He is holy (see I Peter 1:15-16). Since God is holy, we must treat Him and His name with holiness or purity. But unfortunately, even some Christians find it very easy to use the LORD’S name in vain. And the truth is that those of us who have experienced God’s holiness are hurt when we hear someone profane the LORD’S name. God’s name represents His character and we are truly playing with fire if we take His name in vain. This week’s lesson reveals just how holy the LORD and His name are. Although some people don’t see taking the LORD’S name in vain to be “that serious,” God does, and this lesson is a warning to us of what can happen when we sin by defaming His holy name.
