What prophet prophesied But let justice roll down like a river and righteousness like a mighty stream?
In Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream", King states "we will not be satisfied untiljustice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream", which is an allusion to Amos 5:24: "But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!".
When Dr. King quoted the scripture that says “Until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream,” he was referring to something much bigger than what one police officer or one prosecutor does. And it was something much more audacious than what happens in a court room Amos 5. ... This book contains the prophecies attributed to the prophet Amos, including a lamentation for Israel, Amos 5:1–3; an exhortation to repentance, Amos 5:4–20; God's rejection to their hypocritical service, Amos 5:21–27. It is a part of the Book of the Twelve Minor Prophets.
Isaiah 2: "For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low" (Isaiah 2:12). Another early use of the phrase is in Amos 5:18-20.
"But let justice roll down like waters And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Jump to: ... Men are terrified and seek every possible way of escape. The late ... But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
