In September 2002, Patrick adopted his first Pit Bull. Doing what any dog owner should do, he researched the breed, immersing himself in history, and discovering myths and eventually, breed bias. Battles with property management at his workplace, having the full support of his bodss and co-workers, he won and was able to continue to bring this dog he had named Bean to work every day.

The following October he founded Sonoma County Residents Responsible About Pit Bulls (SCRRAP). In a press interview Patrick stated "We are a part social, and all advocacy group." The goal was to get other Pit Bull owners together for meetups and walks. SCRRAP was able to help other owners with training and socializing, as well as assisting in finding homes for dogs the were in need. 

In March of 2012, The Pit Bull Advocate online Blog Talk Radio show was launched. Using the name Dogfather because "It's not about me... Being an Advocate. It was a way to draw attention to other Advocates and to rescue organizations without trying to just go out and make a name for myself.It's about the dogs, and those who are on the front lines every single day fighting for their rights, and for what is right.
