Whistleblowers! is presented in coordination with Marcel Reid and the Whistleblowers Summit July 27-29 in D.C. 2016

Guest: Sean Higgins

Sean Higgins worked at the VA hostpital in Memphis TN>> What he witnessed there was unthinkable.  Contaminated equipment, abandoned nurses station on a floor for paralysed veterans.  Equipment purchased for hundreds of thousands of dollars that had never been used.  "In January, the VA Office of Inspector General (VAOIG) released a blistering report which made twenty-seven recommendations across eight areas: quality management, environment of care, medication management, coordination of care, magnetic resonance imaging safety, acute ischemic stroke care, surgical complexity, and emergency airway management." (Reported by Michael Volpe/ The Daily Caller

These and many other issues that directly affected the quality of care of our veterans.  Sean reported what he observed and payed a heavy price for doing so. Terminated for daring to report abuses and gross inefficiencies, Sean appealed, winning his job back. Now he has been accused of creating a hostile work environment.

I suppose when you expose the neglect of our veterans and the substandard care they receive, and report financial misdeeds that cost the country millions in waste, fraud and abuse, those who benefited from these activities get a little upset.  Not to worry!  Even those who have been questioned about their competency to manage or administer the VA get rewarded!  They get promoted and receive bonuses!
