Marcy Winograd and Kiersten Cluster started Elephant Guardians of Los Angeles about 1 year ago with the mission of releasing Billy the Elephant from the Los Angeles Zoo to Sanctuary, ending captive elephant breeding in Los Angeles, and closing the elephant exhibit at the Los Angeles Zoo.  Have since joined forces with the Kerulos Center (executive director, Dr. Gay Bradshaw) to open a new elephant sanctuary in the United States to cater to the needs of traumatized bull elephants.

Elephant Guardians of Los Angeles was started by Marcy Winograd and Kiersten Cluster, two public school teachers in Los Angeles dedicated to dignity and freedom for all.

Join our campaign to end elephant captivity. See what you can do to help.  Elephants, highly intelligent, socially complex beings with capabilities similar to our own, belong in their natural habitat, where they can enjoy thousands of miles to roam and extended family relationships. Since that life was taken from zoo elephants, we must, at the very least, release them to Sanctuary, where they can live the remainder of their lives with some degree of peace, security, and dignity.
