Matthew 3:3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. John The Baptist spoke these words getting his followers and the people of Jeruselem ready for the Messiah who is Christ The Lord. 

Just as Jesus allowed John to baptise him, we must be born again through baptism in Jesus Christ.  As John the Baptist was born to prepare the way of the Messiah.  We who are born again, prepare the way for his return.
