"Live Each day For Christ"
Ephesians 2:11-22
The apostle Paul is addressing the Ephesian believers, who were predominantly Gentiles (non-Jews).
He reminds them of their past state before coming to faith in Christ.
Gentiles in the Flesh:
The Ephesian believers were once Gentiles, living outside the covenant relationship with God.
They were not part of the Jewish community and did not bear the physical mark of circumcision.
The Uncircumcision and the Circumcision:
The terms “uncircumcision” and “circumcision” refer to the religious distinction between Jews and Gentiles.
The Jews, who practiced physical circumcision as a sign of their covenant with God, referred to themselves as “the circumcision.”
In contrast, the Gentiles were called “the uncircumcision” by the Jewish community.
summary, Ephesians 2:11 underscores that our spiritual identity is not determined by external rituals but by the inner transformation of the heart through faith in Jesus Christ. It emphasizes unity in Christ, where both Jews and Gentiles find reconciliation and belonging in God’s family.
