Alcoholics Anonymous, and the modern 12 Step addiction model as we now know it, was created back in 1935 by Bill Wilson and Dr. Robert Smith. The basic program had developed from the works of American author, psychologist and philosopher William James (1902), Dr. William Duncan Silkworth (a New York addictions doctor who treated Bill Wilson), and the Oxford Group (a Christian Organization from 1931).

Dr. Mathis holds strong professional opinions about the weaknesses of the 12-step model, and about the presentation of addictions in general as a "disease model." Please join us as we examine both techniques, as well as discuss alternative for addiction help. These opinions are potentially quite controversial, compared to what our society typically accepts as true on this topic, so our listeners have been advised as to the tone of tonight's show.

We hope you will join us for tonight's discussion!
