Our topic tonight is Maintaining Sobriety & Healthy Habits During the Holidays.

This is part 2 of a 3 part series we are doing, discussing mental health issues that make it a struggle to cope with the holiday season. Our last show was on Holiday Depression. Our final show in two weeks, December 28th, will be on New Year’s Resolutions.

There are several categories of people who have a difficult time maintaining their lives during the holidays.

  • People who struggle with addictions of various types feel extra pressure at the holidays, when celebrations often serve alcohol or other substances that are a problem.
  • People with eating disorders struggle to appear like everyone else, in spite of mountains of delicious foods and family or other social pressure to partake of them.
  • People with a wide variety of other medical or health concerns, such as disability, anxiety disorders, PTSD, Spectrum issues and related pathologies, or long term illnesses and visible health conditions, find simple family gatherings too much to handle,
  • People who are new to healthy habits become anxious that they will fall off their proverbial wagon and ruin all their progress.

We rush around with extra social obligations and big meals full of ingredients out of our control. Nobody wants to call attention to themselves and their anxieties, but staying away from gatherings also calls attention to them just as much.

On Wednesday, Dec 14th, at 11:00 pm EST, we want to talk about these issues, and suggest some coping strategies that people can try in order to deal better with their holidays.
