Tonight’s show is called, “Teach Your Children Well – The Influence of Music Lyrics on Pop Culture and Relationships.

Despite the title, since I chose to link it to a song lyric, this is as much or more so an issue for adults.

It has already been established as accepted fact, by the psychological community, that music and lyrics both can have a strong influence on mood, relationships, and culture. Tonight, we just want to remind our listeners of how pervasive certain themes are in popular music, as well as to encourage them to be aware of with what kinds of themes and sentiments they surround themselves. This way, if our listeners find themselves or even others in their family and close circles exhibiting unhealthy or incorrect attitudes and unconscious assumptions, you will be equipped to be actively aware of these influences and change the ones that are not working out for you to something else more positive and constructive.

Tonight, we will discuss:

  1. An Overview of how popular music influences culture and societal norms.
  2. Common negative themes that appear frequently in music lyrics – specific examples and categories
  3. What responsibility does music or art owe society regarding culture influences?
  4. How to “deprogram” yourself from unconscious negative attitudes by the media you use
